SOCKET: The Cult is Growing!

In a little over a week, SOCKET has created quite a buzz on this here thing called the internet. With some great gay bloggers (see list to the right) catching wind of our unique film, we've had well over 5000 viewings of our trailer on sites like You Tube, Daily Motion, Google Video, and iFilm.
We've also already become a Wikipedia entry!!!
PLUS our MySpace page has been updated with tons of pictures, info on the film, the trailer, a slide show, etc. Us here at Velvet Candy and our co-producers at Dark Blue Films are very
excited as we prepare to bring SOCKET to the widest audience possible. Thank you to all our friends, old and new that have
helped us spread the word!!! We have a great feeling about this.

SOCKET: Sex, Plugs, Shock & Control

As word of SOCKET has spread throughout the internet, we've recieved a few inquiries about the gay content of the film.
People seem to want to know a) if the characters are "out" and b) is there sex & nudity in the film? Our answers are
"yes, yes & yes". Our lead characters of Dr. Bill Matthews and Dr. Craig Murphy are "out" in the sense that their sexuality is never questioned - like it should be in real life. Yes they are gay, yes they are doctors, yes they are involved in a storyline where their sexuality is inconsequential to the plot, yet prominent throughout the film. Our two female leads also happen to be lesbian and just to keep thing interesting we have transgendered actress Alexandra Billings playing a straight woman!
As for sex & nudity - we feel that it's a natural part of the storytelling. Don't you hate it when there's a hot love scene in a mainstream film and when they are finished, the characters roll over and they are wearing underwear? That totally ruins it for us. We believe that people are often naked in real life and therefore for a story to be told realistically, why shouldn't they be naked within the context of a film? After such recent indie films as BROWN BUNNY, SHORTBUS, 9 SONGS and KISSING ON THE MOUTH, there isn't much that we could do to shock our audience sexually...but none of those films used electricity as an erotic element. SOCKET does. Go ahead and plug in... :)

SOCKET: Meet Allie Rivenbark

Allie Rivenbark adds some great comic relief to SOCKET as Olivia, the sassy, outspoken and hysterically funny girlfriend of Carol. Born in the South, but theater-trained in New York City, some of Allie's stage work includes TORN, OCTOBER-HOUSEWIFE the Musical, BURNING HABITS and an off-Broadway role-reversal of JULIUS CAESAR. Most recently she starred in JONI & GINA'S WEDDING. Allie's most recent films include THE GAY BED AND BREAKFAST OF TERROR, THIS WOMAN'S WORK and I HATE ALINA. Allie also is known to do some stand-up from time to time about her southern upbringing and life characters. Velvet Candy looks forward to a bright future for Allie in Hollywood!

SOCKET: Meet Rasool Jahan

Rasool Jahan portrays Carol in SOCKET, the best friend of Dr. Bill Matthews and girlfriend of wise-cracking Olivia.
Rasool was born in Ankara, Turkey. She had lived in both Taiwan and England before moving to the States.
Her film credits include Anthony Minghella's all-star epic COLD MOUNTAIN, and the role of Deb in the original
I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER and DRESS CODE directed by Shirley MacLaine! Theatrically trained with many Shakespearean credits under her belt, Rasool has acted on television in FREEDOM SONG with Danny Glover and in THE LOCKET with Vanessa Redgrave. Other TV credits include several episodes of DAWSON'S CREEK and the co-starring role in the made-for-TV movie, THE SECRET. Velvet Candy is proud to have the supremely talented and stunningly beautiful
Rasool in our cast and we look forward to working with her again in the future!

SOCKET: Meet Alexandra Billings

On the heels of her GLAAD Award-nominated guest starring role on the ABC mega-hit GREY'S ANATOMY, the amazing Alexander Billings portrays the hard-edged Dr. Emily Andersen in SOCKET. Multiple award-winning Ms. Billings' other recent credits include the prestigious NBC series E.R.. Alex has starred in numerous stage productions including her acclaimed one-woman autobiographical show BEFORE I DISAPPEAR at LA's The Avery Schreiber Theatre, and Off Broadway at The Producer's Club. Her nightclub act has toured Chicago, Santa Fe, Palm Springs, and New York. Her many Chicago theater credits include Mama Rose in GYPSY; a 2 year run of HAMLET-THE MUSICAL and her all time favorite role as Cruella DeVil in 101 DALMATIONS. In 2003, Alexandra made TV history by being the first transgendered female to play a transgendered female character on television in ROMY AND MICHELLE- A NEW BEGINNING. Already beloved for her stage work, her role in the genre-busting SOCKET will no doubt gain her many new fans as well.
